SAD
It's natural to feel sad when life is rough and it is also a sign that we care about each other. People express their sadness in different ways. Some may express it in an open way by crying or talking about it. Others are more closed about their feelings and hold their sadness inside, with no words or tears, although they may look sad. Sometimes people behave absolutely normal - laughing and talking - trying to forget the sadness, at least for a while. All these reactions are perfectly normal. Explore the words in the clouds and see if any describes the way you feel.
TEARFUL
"I feel like crying all the time".
We all react differently when we are sad but crying is a very normal reaction. Sometimes it can be really good to cry and we feel much better afterwards. But if we cry a lot, we can get terrible headaches and in the end we can feel absolutely exhausted. You should talk to an adult if the sadness is filling you up so that you are constantly crying day after day.
GRIEF
"Why did this happen to us"?
Although we know that life contains sadness as well as happiness, we find it hard that it has to happen to us. And it's true, usually it does happen to someone else, but then - suddenly - it has struck in your family as well. We can ask 'Why?", but usually we can't actually get the answer to that - it just happens.
DEPRESSED
"I don't care about anything anymore".
Sometimes when we feel very sad for a very long time, the sadness can turn into what we call 'depression'. Nothing can cheer us up, we have no energy, can't concentrate, but don't really care because we don't feel like doing anything anyway. Sometimes we can get so low that we feel like harming ourselves. If you have any of these feelings, you must talk to an adult about it.
DEVASTATED
"I feel my world has fallen apart"
Sometimes we feel completely overwhelmed by our sadness and it's hard to find pleasure in anything at all. This is natural when things are sad, but it's important that you don't stay in the sad mood all the time, even if you have to force your sadness away for a little while by finding something distracting to do.
UPSET
"I'm so unhappy"
You've been upset many times before in your life but this is different. You've got that horrible feeling all the time that's getting you down and you can't make it go away.
MISERABLE
"It all feels too much for me".
Although you really want to be positive and you feel you should be supportive, you're so fed up of always feeling miserable and you feel it's all too much for you. You really wish things could get back to normal again.
BLEAK
"Things just seem to get worse every day".
You thought yesterday was bad, but things are looking even worse today. Everything seems hopeless and you're really tired of being sad all the time.
